Why I’ve been gone for a few days

On Monday morning, I had a miscarriage.

This is difficult to say. And not because of the actual event – my body, hormones, and emotions have made it VERY clear that this pregnancy is over.

Instead, it feels difficult to say this because it feels weird to talk about me, and because I’m scared of feeling like I’m saying it for attention.

And even though I have a fear of pity or attracting too much attention, I feel like I have to say it for all of the people who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss and haven’t said anything.

You know what’s been hard about experiencing my miscarriage? It’s the feeling that I’ve already been shrouded in secrecy for months, and I don’t know how to climb out of it.

You see, being pregnant taught me just how isolating it is to be pregnant.

Why having a birth plan is so important and how to create one

So I used to think that birth planning was for high-maintenance controlling types…and boy was I wrong. Birth plans aren’t about naming the outcomes of your birth or pretending that you can control how your birth progresses. It’s about being clear on your values for the *process* of your birth and the vibe you want in your birth space.

In today’s episode:
-The three reasons why birth plans are so important (including one super surprising one!)
-How to create your birth plan so the nurses want to read it.

Life as a newborn: from fancy hotel to Berlin nightclub

Ok, ok, ok, there’s a bit of an extended metaphor in this podcast, but stick with me. We’re talking all about why babies are the way that they are in the first few months of life. They don’t sleep through the night, sometimes they eat for 4 hours in a row, and you can never predict when they’re going to sleep. It’s not their fault! The transition from life in the womb to life outside is tough.

In today’s episode:
-Why life in the womb is like staying at the best hotel imaginable.
-What happens when your baby is born.
-How you can best respond to this poor, disoriented baby!
